The purpose of the Mechanical Service Manager is to provide the daily direction and distribution of service work orders to Heavy Duty Truck and Trailer Technicians. In addition, the service manager provides oversight of the work performed to ensure proper safety procedures and processes are followed so that customer needs are met in the most timely, effective, efficient, and safest manner possible. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills are vital for this role, as good teamwork is important for the business to grow. This individual will communicate with both local and national account customers within the transportation industry.

Job Duties:

  • Receives, creates, and assigns all service work orders to respected technicians.
  • Responsible for the growth and productivity of technicians and ensures they hit or exceed monthly revenue goals.
  • Assist branch and operations manager with maintaining up to date employee administrative files, DOT Med Cards, ASE/TIA certifications, forklift safety, employee evaluations, etc.
  • Responsible for coordinating with parts room on purchasing and maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Assist branch and operations manager with the hiring and training of mobile mechanics, and administrative personnel.
  • Manage departments P&L, employee payroll/overtime, and other department expenses.
  • Monitor the quality of all service work performed.
  • Responsible for service department’s operational practices.
  • Ensure accuracy on work orders, prior to closing.
  • Generate computer work orders for all products leaving the parts room/warehouse.
  • Provides sales staff support and supervision through service quotes, product look-ups, alleviating any customer disputes or requests, etc.
  • Ability to communicate repairs completed to customers, as well as the ability to articulate the work that was completed.
  • Manage customer scheduled fleet work
  • Manage maintenance on company owned service trucks in accordance with company’s PM schedule.
  • Submit all service department payables to Branch or Operations Manager for approval and payment
  • Assist the Branch Manager with managing and maintaining inventory according to company standards.
  • Assist with warehouse duties (inventory, load/unload, barcoding, scan billing, etc.)
  • Operate Michelin 24/7 or On Call website.
  • Conducts daily reviews of Warehouse, Service Bays/Trucks, and Equipment in order to ensure safety, compliance, cleanliness, and organization.
  • Ensures proper branch opening and closing procedures are being followed.
  • Ensures branch has sufficient resources, such as personnel, material, and equipment.
  • Follow all safety rules, wear proper PPE, and demonstrate safety conscious mindset.
  • Demonstrate excellent attendance, show up to work on time and in the correct uniform.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and values.
  • Responsible for all of the daily activities in the store, based on department
  • Other duties as assigned
 

Required Experience:

  • At least 2 years' experience within the industry or a related management position.
  • Familiarity with Paylocity and AS400 software would be a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and must be insurable to drive by company standards.
  • Federal Annual and Brake Inspector certification preferred.
  • Commercial TIA certification required after six months of employment. Training and testing is provided by the company.
  • Medium/Heavy Truck ASE certifications or the equivalent preferred.
  • Commercial tire knowledge is helpful

  • Computer literate to include understanding of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and operate other software (AS400, SAP, Paylocity, BTN, etc.) 
  • Must have strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills, as well as close attention to detail.
  • Ability to cycle inventory, run reports, and communicate with upper management.
  • Reliable and dependable with self-initiative.
  • Ability to multi-task, work effectively under pressure and time constraints.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact with all levels within the organization and client base.
  • Ability to understand the top 30 customer’s portfolio, as well as the top 10 potential.
  • Superior customer service and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Demonstrate proficient analytical thinking and business insight.
  • Requires the ability to identify new opportunities for growth.
  • Must be able to work in a results-oriented fast-paced environment.
  • Sensitivity to confidential matters.
  • Must exemplify sound decision-making skills and be able to adapt quickly to changing conditions.
  • Must possess the ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, solve problems, and resolve conflict.
  • Prior knowledge or ability to learn, implement, and monitor state/federal OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain customer relationships.
  • Must have a general working knowledge of both diesel and gasoline powered class 5 through 8 heavy trucks and competency on terminology, components, and repairs.
  • Knowledge of fleet operations and maintenance reporting.
  • Proficient understanding of VMRS codes and TMC recommended practices.
  • Knowledge of OEM and aftermarket parts/suppliers within the transportation/mechanical industry.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
